Spiritfarer- a cozy game about death that will warm your heart.

Rating:  4.5 stars

A vast majority of cozy games out there take place in small towns or communities, where you live our your life. But what if it wasn't your life you were living, but your death

That's how you might describe Spiritfarer. The game takes place in what is presumably a temporary afterlife, where you (Stella) and your cat Daffodil have just become the titular Spiritfarers, whose job is to ferry lost spirits to the "Everdoor" so they can truly end their days.

However, you also need to ensure the spirits are content, and that their last wishes are fulfilled. Each spirit will have a set of quests you must complete, often involving new buildings on your boat or going to specific locations.

Once a spirit is ready to leave the world, Stella can chart a course to the Everdoor to let the spirit move on, and can then collect their Spirit Flower.

A part of the game I personally find interesting is that as the game goes on, Stella's past is slowly unraveled by the things she does. Many of the spirits had a connection to Stella in life, and as each one passes, she sees more and more of her memories. This is beautifully interwoven with the  gameplay, and it doesn't at all feel forced or rushed.

There's also plenty of features that make it feel peaceful, like fishing at midnight and playing songs to your plants to help them grow. There's no combat at all, just sailing through the water slowly improving your boat and helping your spirits.

Also, there's a hug button. In my humble opinion, all games need a hug button.

Overall, Spiritfarer is an incredible game easy enough for anyone to pick up (but quite hard to handle emotionally!)

Spiritfarer is available on Playstation 4, Linux, Steam, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
